"The Real World"
I started my post-college career with Intel Corporation
in July 1999, at their
Hillsboro, Oregon site. I spent my first year in their Rotation Engineers Program,
which allows participants to select three four-month rotations in different areas
of the company. In April 2000, I relocated to the Chandler, Arizona site for my
third rotation, and decided to final place in the same group -- I am currently
a Senior Technical Marketing Engineer in the Embedded Intel Architecture Division,
supporting customers designing systems with the Intel® Pentium® 4 and Xeon® processors.
Internships and Co-op
IBM
I spent eight months during 1998 in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, working
for "big blue", IBM. My major project was performance
analysis for a mobile networking software product. If you're looking for the 1998
IBM RTP Co-ops Email List, please email me. I've taken it down due to exploitation by
spammers.
Rumken, Inc.
My summer internship in 1997 was with Rumken, Inc.
in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. I worked primarily with Oracle databases, and I also spent
some time with Windows software development.
Lightstream Internet, Inc.
My first college internship was with
Lightstream Internet, Inc. in 1996. It was very
interesting to be there from the start, even before the ISP opened for business. I
did web design, for Lightstream's own site as well as its customers', technical support,
and some system administration.
Other College-Related Positions
National Center for Microgravity Research
I was the webmaster for NCMR from 1997 to 1999,
designing the first major revision of their web site. In mid-1999, I stepped back
to be a technical consultant.
CWRUnet Services
I worked for CWRUnet Services during my first three
years as a student at CWRU, doing web design, network support, and network software
development.
Pre-College (but still at least remotely career-related)
CWRUnet Services
My high school had a senior project program, wherein students worked at a site
of their choice for the last four weeks of senior year. In May 1999, I worked at
CWRUnet Services, where I saw the graphical web for the first time (my prior experience
had been limited to text-based Lynx), and first learned HTML and web site design.
This site and its companion, The Pacer Page,
were born during this month. This senior project also led to my position with
CWRUnet Services as a college student.
University Circle Incorporated Summer Scholars Program
During the summer of 1995, just prior to starting college, I designed and taught
a five-week computer workshop to inner-city Cleveland high school students. This
was the first year the internet was included in the course, so in addition to
introducing the students to computer basics and applications, they spent a great
deal of time learning about email, the web, and web design.
High School Independent Study
Needing to fill a hole in my schedule during my senior year of high school, I
decided to take on an independent study. I designed a six-week series of seminars
on the internet, for teachers and administrators in my school district. About
40 "students" participated.
Other High School Jobs
Express
I worked at Express, the women's clothing
store, for about a year in high school. I learned how to fold clothes.
McDonald's
I did the obligatory food service job at McDonald's
for nearly two years in high school.
